Just to let you know we are having our May meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm Hopefully our callers reached you. What with the rummage sale followed by the book sale we got backed up. Thanks to all that helped for the sales. It is a lot of hard work, but oh how nice to give money to our schools and buy needed and wanted things for our library. Thanks too to those who came out and purchased items.

Dear Resident:
The City of San Antonio, Department of Capital Improvements Management Services wishes to announce the start of the Marbach Road Phase IIA reconstruction project. This project will reconstruct Marbach Road from Military Drive West to Meadow Way Drive to include new curbs, sidewalks, driveway approaches, ADA compliant wheelchair ramps, traffic signal improvements and an underground storm sewer system.

Funding for construction of this project was acquired through 2007 – 2012 Bond Program. The contractor for this project is Ballenger Construction. Construction has begun on April 4th, 2011 and is estimated to be completed in September 2012.

Please assist in keeping children away from construction areas during and after working time for their safety. Residents are advised to be aware of equipment and personnel that will be working in the area and to expect some inconveniences from time to time, especially during periods of wet weather.

The Here We Come meeting to discuss details of the project is Tuesday May 17th from 6:00p.m. - 7:30p.m. It will be held at the Guerra Library which is located at 7978 Military Drive West.

Annual city-wide cleanup day scheduled for April 2

Spring cleaning is in the air
Annual city-wide cleanup day scheduled for April 2
Spring has arrived and so has the time for the annual city-wide cleanup day. Residents are invited to get a jump start on their spring cleaning by taking part in the event on Saturday, April 2.

This annual free event is one in a series of events that the Solid Waste Management Department sponsors within the year that provides residents with the opportunity to get rid of unwanted bulky items. From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. City crews and trucks will be stationed at 13 locations across the city to collect items (a complete list of locations located below).

To take part in this day, you must be a City of San Antonio residential solid waste rate payer. Participants must bring a copy of their most recent CPS Energy bill along with a picture ID as proof of residency to obtain “free” disposal. Residents are asked to cover loads with a tarp to avoid being charged a penalty under the City Ordinance #72272 Tarp-Law.

Residents are also encouraged to separate their brush from their bulky items and recycle the clean brush at the Bitter Brush Collection Site, 1800 Bitters Rd. The site will also be accepting residential brush and yard trimmings for free on that day as well as providing free mulch as long as supplies last. Mulch and paper kraft bags will also be available for free on a first come, first served basis at the Southside Citizen Drop-off Center , 5450 Castroville Road .

Ribbon Cutting For Rodriguez Park Improvements

  The improvements to this project involved the reclamation of  Rodriguez Road from Old Hwy 90 to the Park Entrance. 

·   The reclamation improvements widened the existing two lane roadway to a minimum 26 feet.  New curbs and sidewalks were provided.

·  The project was constructed by contract forces - J3 Excavation Company

·  Project construction began in July 20, 2010 and was completed on August 31, 2010. 

·  The cooperative efforts of the Contractor and City Staff made it possible for the entire project to be completed in about 1 month.

·  The project was funded with Excess Bonds. The total estimated project cost is $220,000.

September Meeting

We hope everyone enjoyed their summer break—now it’s time to “get back to work”. Our next meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on September 28^th in the Meadow Village Elementary School cafeteria. We will be nominating our new officers for the coming year. The election of these nominees will be held in October. Our guest speaker will be District #124 State Representative Jose Menendez, who will discuss several critical issues and would like our feedback. We appreciate Jose taking the time to visit with us and to learn about state legislative issues impacting our neighborhood . Please join us.

More “Roadwork” Scheduled

Starting in January 2011 a new drainage improvement project from Military Drive to Rawhide will begin, weather permitting. Plans call for turning Marbach Road from Military Drive to IH 410 into two lanes while this construction is in progress. This project should take about 18 months to complete. You might want to consider some alternate routes during this period. For example, to get to the west side of IH 410 you might consider using the Highway 151 “turnaround”. To reach Military Drive from our neighborhood, Timbercreek might be a better, faster and less congested option than using Marbach Road.

The Food Bank Needs Our Help!!!

With so many people out of work, more and more people are turning to the Food Bank in order to feed their families. Because of this, the Food Bank is experiencing an urgent need for donations to help them restock their shelves. This is particularly important during the coming holiday season.

To assist them, our Meadow Village Neighborhood Association will again be collecting money to donate to the Food Bank. We did extremely well last year. Our generous membership donated $835.00. Since the Food Bank is able to leverage donated funds, our donations equaled 21,310 pounds of food.

If you can possibly donate please make your check payable to: San Antonio Food Bank and mail to MVNA, P.O. MORE: Local dogs will be getting squeaky clean from their nails to their tails during the Barks N’ Bubbles Doggie Wash at Animal Care Services. Set for Saturday, September 18th, Barks N’ Bubbles will feature “doggie spa” treatments like luxurious bubble baths, pedicures and fur styling brush outs. Dog baths are just $5 dollars while brush outs cost $3 dollars and “paw pedis” cost $2 dollars. All proceeds will benefit the Animal Care Services Donation Fund.

Once a year Meadow Village Neighborhood holds a yard sale at John Jay High School. It is our only fundraiser for the year. It helps us to support our local schools. It is a lot of work but a lot of fun as well.
